I dont know how it got such high ratings. This is the most overrated show. I wasn't able to make it past the eighth episode and my journey till there was not a pleasant one. I m not an anime fan but this was just intolerable to the limits.
This show is an annoying abomination. Each episode consists of a power hungry mad scientist named Rick coming up with a scheme to grab power. He will drag his nephew, Morty, along to be a scape goat or distraction. Morty will reluctantly agree to go along with his uncle. Now people think these two are based on Marty McFly and Doc Brown from Back to the Future. Other than a vague likeness, they have nothing in common. Rick is an irredeemably awful human and that's really the whole point. Watch this evil human being ruin the universe and drag everyone down to his level. The "humor" is farting, passing out drunk, burping, etc. This show isn't worth watching. It's crap.
Finally decided to jump on the hype bandwagon and im very dissapointed. I watched the first episode unimpressed but finished the first season because over 9 on IMDB is always good, right? Rick is annoying and just not likeable in any way, his constant burping and stuttering really grinds at you. Morty the same and his constant screams made me want to put my fist through the TV. There are some ok moments but it tries to be too clever sometimes. Rick laughing at his own jokes and talking to the viewer is so cringy, there are some original ideas and decent writing in parts, but generally its a loud, annoying mess. The father, Jerry was my favourite character and the only one that really made me laugh.
Now the 'jokes' when did child rape and incest become funny? A 14 year old impregnating a robot and having a child with it? Anyone??? Maybe i have to be in MENSA to get these. Overall i really dont see the appeal, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, South Park, Monkey Dust(check this out) are all funnier, with more likeable characters.
With the deep sci-fi 4th wallbreaks, like a mix of Star Wars and dead pool. Rick and morty is perfectly crafted tv show that I would recommend for any sci-fi fanatic. It has everything from dark-humour to moments that make you really sad for the characters.
Overall, if you are in need of an addictive show, this is the one for you. Wubba Lubba Dub Dub!
