Snow Monkey
  • Snow Monkey (2015)
  • Documentary, War
  • For almost 50 years, activist artist George Gittoes has stood on the frontlines of the world's most brutal conflicts and borne witness to the best and the worst of humanity. Now living in Afghanistan's remote, Taliban-infested Jalalabad province, Gittoes turns his attention to the lives of the children and outcasts of this war-torn land. In Snow Monkey, Gittoes paints a portrait of a Jalalabad seething with humanity, adversity and hope – focusing on three gangs of children: the Ghostbusters, persecuted Kochi boys who hawk exorcisms of bad luck and demons; the Snow Monkeys, who sell ice cream to support their families; and the Gangsters, a razor gang led by a nine-year-old antihero called Steel, terrifying to the core but still capable of experiencing aspects of the childhood seemingly taken from him. With a deeply humane vision that won him the Sydney Peace Prize, Gittoes shows us the unseen nature of Afghanistan's politics, culture and society, up close and startlingly personal.

With veteran filmmaker Gary Scurka in tow, the marines encounter ambushes and fire fights, engage in dangerous missions in cities along the way, endure sniper fire and sandstorms and lead the charge into Baghdad. Yet despite their feats, most of these Marines are young cadets straight out of high school, shipped to a far off desert to engage in a war for reasons they may not fully understand.

  • Up, Down, Around (2014)
  • War
  • A student film comprising entirely of found footage, constructed to challenge the viewer's perception and induce a struggle between processing the images, keeping track of their sequence and interpreting the allegorical layers within the film. The screen is broken up into eight more or less equal squares of which, at any one moment, a scene fragment may flickeringly appear in only one frame-corner at a time. As the film moves forward in time and patterns on screen become more complex, the viewer must choose what to focus on.

In 1989, the horrific murder of six Jesuit priests and two women shocked the world into action. Following the U.S. investigation into the atrocity, ENEMIES OF WAR reveals the stories of people embarking on a seemingly impossible path to peace in a country suffering from war.
