Biography

Sri Muruganar (1890-1973) Disciple of Sri Ramana Maharshi. He was an outstanding Tamil scholar and poet and served as an early editor of the extensive Tamil-English dictionary, the Tamil Lexicon (first edition 1924-1939). He first visited Ramana Maharshi in 1923, and in 1926, he gave up all his worldly ties and went to Maharshi's side and stayed there permanently. He continued to compose poems praising Maharshi and published the first edition of “Sri Ramana Sannidhi Murai” in 1933, then further supplemented it and published the second edition in 1939. At the same time, he compiled the teachings he heard from the Maharshi into quatrains over several years and published the first edition of Guru Vachaka Kovai in 1939, and continued the same work thereafter. Meanwhile, other poetic works in which he sings about the greatness of Sri Ramana include “Sri Ramana Deva Malai” (1939), “Sri Ramana Sarana Pallandu” (1943), and “Sri Ramana Deva Malai” (1939). There is “Ramana Anubhuti” (1960-1961), and in 1971, the second edition, which further supplemented “Jineohwaman,” was published by Ashram. In addition, he continued to compose over 17,000 poems until the end of his life. In 1973, he entrusted all the manuscripts to Sri Sadhu Om and was comfortably incorporated into Arunachala.
